Canned tuna textures vary from chunky to flaky, and some tins are packed in water while others are in oil. Adjust the mayonnaise to reach the creaminess you prefer. If your tuna is packed in olive oil, you can use some of that oil in place of mayo for a different but delicious flavor and texture. Taste and tweak the seasonings to make the salad your own.

Ingredients

  • 10 oz.
tuna, drained (two 5 oz. cans)
  • 1/4 cup
mayonnaise (or more to reach desired creaminess)
  • 1
    celery stalk, diced
  • 2 Tablespoons
    diced red onion
  • 2 teaspoons
    mustard
  • 2 teaspoons
    minced parsley
  • salt to taste
  • fresh cracked black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon
    hot sauce or Sriracha (optional)
  • freshly squeezed lemon juice, to taste (optional)
  • 1 large
avocado, cut into bite-sized pieces (or add more if desired)

Instructions

  • Drain excess water or oil from the tuna. Add the tuna to a medium bowl and gently break up large chunks. If the tuna is packed in olive oil, you can use a small amount of that oil in place of mayo for a different flavor and similar creaminess.
    Drain Tuna
  • Add mayonnaise, diced celery, red onion, mustard, parsley, salt, pepper, and the optional hot sauce or lemon juice. Stir to combine.

Fold in the avocado and mash to your preferred texture. For a smooth spread, mash more thoroughly; for a chunky salad, fold gently to keep pieces intact.

    Add Avocado
  • Serve the avocado tuna salad on a bed of lettuce, stuffed into a wrap, or with cucumber slices for a low-carb meal.
    Serve
