Ingredients
- 1 pound regular, country, or traditional sausage
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper start with 1/4 tsp and add more to taste
Instructions
-
In a deep frying pan, brown and crumble the sausage over medium-high heat until fully cooked and no longer pink.
-
Reduce the heat to medium-low so the sausage stays warm without burning.
-
Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir until the meat is evenly coated; cook briefly to remove the raw flour taste.
-
Slowly add the milk while stirring. Add the salt and black pepper, then mix to combine.
-
Increase the heat to medium-high and stir frequently as the sauce comes to a boil and thickens. It will take about 10 minutes to reach the desired consistency. If the gravy becomes too thick, thin with a little more milk. Serve hot over warm biscuits.
