This dip blends sweet and savory into something absolutely divine. With a handful of delicious ingredients, every bite is unforgettable.

The New Year is almost here, and each year I choose a single “word of the year” to focus on instead of a long list of resolutions. A single word is easier to remember and to put into practice. In past years I’ve chosen words that pushed me to grow; one of my favorites was “patience.” It’s a simple habit that helps me reflect on how I’ve changed and where I still need work. I haven’t settled on a word for this coming year yet, but I have a few contenders in mind.
One of the things I always look forward to at this time of year is New Year’s Eve parties. My husband and I love hosting, especially when it comes to serving a variety of dips. We enjoy both the casual party atmosphere and the chance to share new flavor combinations with friends and family.
This particular dip is special to me. It was inspired by one of my favorite appetizers, Cranberry Baked Brie. The combination of brown sugar, pecans, and craisins in that dish sparked the idea to recreate those flavors in an easy, crowd-pleasing dip. Since this version doesn’t use brie, I rearranged the components to highlight sweet and savory in a new way.
The result is a dip that balances brown sugar and sugared pecans with savory elements like green onions and white cheddar. If that mix sounds unlikely, I understand — I was skeptical at first, too. The flavor combination, however, works beautifully. The green onions and white cheddar add depth and savory contrast that elevate the sweetness, making every mouthful interesting and balanced.
Serve this dip warm so the cheese is melty and the flavors meld together. Each bite delivers a pleasing contrast: creamy, tangy, sweet, and savory all at once. It’s the kind of appetizer that guests will return to throughout the night.
If you’re hunting for a unique, memorable dip for your next gathering, this is an excellent choice — simple to prepare, big on flavor, and great with a variety of crackers or sliced baguette.
- 16 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup craisins
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- 1/2 cup grated white cheddar
- 1/8 cup brown sugar (to sprinkle on top)
- 1/4 cup candied pecans
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and 1/4 cup brown sugar until smooth. Stir in the craisins, chopped green onions, and grated white cheddar. Transfer the mixture to a small cast-iron skillet or an 8 x 8-inch baking dish.
- Bake for 15 minutes, then remove from the oven. Sprinkle the top with the remaining 1/8 cup brown sugar and return to the oven for an additional 15 minutes, until warm and bubbly.
- Top with candied pecans and serve warm with savory crackers or sliced bread.
Enjoy!
