I used to make kale chips in my oven and then I discovered air fryer kale chips — they’re oil-free and take only 3 minutes to cook! That’s right: 3 minutes (6 if you count the 3 minutes to preheat the air fryer).
It’s a simple recipe, and I made a short video to show how easy it is. Feel free to swap spices in the blend to suit your taste.

Method Overview
- Wash and thoroughly dry the kale; remove the center stem and tear leaves into bite-sized pieces.
- Air fry at 325°F for a total of 3 minutes, shaking once halfway through.
- Finish with the spice blend and serve immediately.

Ingredients
-
1
bunch
lacinato kale,
aka Tuscan kale, Italian kale, dinosaur kale -
1/2
teaspoon
garlic powder -
1/2
teaspoon
cumin powder -
1/2
teaspoon
paprika -
1/4 – 1/2
teaspoon
Himalayan sea salt
Instructions
-
Wash the kale leaves, shake off excess water, and lay them on a clean towel. Cover with a second towel and let them dry thoroughly.
-
While the leaves dry, mix the spice blend: combine garlic powder, cumin, paprika, and salt in a small bowl and stir to combine.
-
Remove the center stem from each leaf and tear the leaves into bite-sized pieces.
-
Preheat the air fryer to 325ºF for 3 minutes. Add kale to the basket without filling it more than three-quarters full.
Cook for 1½ minutes, pause and shake the basket or toss the kale, then cook another 1½ minutes. Transfer the chips to a plate.
Repeat with remaining kale until all leaves are crisp.
-
Sprinkle the kale chips with the spice blend and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Use smoked, sweet, or hot paprika depending on the flavor profile you prefer.
- If chips soften after sitting, return them to a preheated air fryer for about 30 seconds to crisp them up again.
