Celebrating Shark Week
Do you celebrate Shark Week? If not, it’s never too late to start. This summer tradition airs annually on the Discovery Channel and in 2026 runs from Sunday, July 23 through Sunday, July 30. Shark Week brings a week of family-friendly programming focused on sharks, and it’s an easy, fun theme to turn into a small celebration at home.
Easy Ways to Celebrate
Shark Week has become one of our favorite summer traditions. Celebrating with kids is simple and brings a lot of joy—our 7- and 13-year-old love it. Decorating is inexpensive: I found shark balloons and themed plates at a big-box store for a few dollars. A few easy ideas to pull a celebration together:
- Decor: inexpensive shark balloons and paper plates set the tone quickly.
- Snacks: grab a ready-made veggie tray for an easy, healthy option.
- Drinks: serve blue, low-sugar beverages to fit the ocean theme.
- Desserts: buy simple vanilla cupcakes and top them with shark sprinkles for a festive touch.
Keeping the celebration simple makes it easy to enjoy the day without too much fuss. A few themed touches create a memorable family moment without breaking the bank.
Shark Week is a small reminder to make time for family fun—days can feel long, but the years go by fast. Pick a day during the week to gather, watch a program together, and enjoy a few themed treats. Wishing you and your family a happy Shark Week!
