Strawberry Rice Krispie Treats Recipe — Fresh Berry Crispy Squares

Happy Valentine’s Day! Do you love Valentine’s Day, or do you avoid it? I’m somewhere in the middle. In my house it’s not a major event—our anniversary is just a few days earlier and my kids aren’t yet in school—so we keep things simple. Still, I didn’t want to skip the day entirely, so this morning we enjoyed a small Valentine’s breakfast and made these heart-shaped Strawberry Rice Krispie treats to share with neighbors.

This version of Rice Krispie treats is just as quick and easy as the classic, and my three-year-old had a great time helping. If you need a speedy, kid-friendly Valentine’s treat, give these a try. You may already have the ingredients on hand.

Mixing pot and spatula
Heart-shaped cookie cutter

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 10 oz package marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 2 cups freeze-dried strawberry slices (crushed)
  • 1/2 pound almond bark
  • Red food coloring (a few drops)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until they are completely melted and smooth.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the Rice Krispies cereal and crushed freeze-dried strawberries until everything is evenly coated.
  3. Press the mixture firmly and evenly into a 13 x 9 inch pan coated with cooking spray. Let it cool until set.
  4. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the cooled slab into heart shapes.
  5. Melt the almond bark according to the package directions. Stir in 2–4 drops of red food coloring until you reach the desired shade.
  6. Dip half of each heart into the colored almond bark and place them on wax paper to cool completely.
